Grandmaster
Foo
Grandmaster Foo
has made very significant contributions to the art of
Qigong. He is renown in China for being one of the first
masters to spread Qigong to large numbers - originally
starting the Qigong wave back in the late 1970's.
He has stood the tests of the time
and proven himself - having taught over 2 million
students Qigong and Enlightenment. He became so popular
that numerous Chinese government officials, clergy, and
international clientele including President Deng
Xiaoping received his Chinese Medical and Qigong healing
services.
He left China to live in the
United States in 1995. He began spreading Qigong to many
Western cultures. His story is an inspiring journey into
the depths of Internal Energy Cultivation & Spiritual
Self Realization.
He was born into a Chinese
Buddhist family that has a long and uninterrupted line
of traditional Chinese medical practitioners. His
Grandfather adhered to a family tradition beginning his
instruction at age 6.
By age 9 he was already skilled in
Martial Arts and became a dedicated student of Luo
Xingwu – the Eminent Chinese Martial Arts Master. He
paid for his lessons by cleaning the master’s house and
preparing his meals. He acquired great discipline and
mastered many arts including many Shaolin styles. He
went on to reach very high levels in Martial Arts.
However, this was only the beginning of his journey.
By the time he was 12 years old,
he was already practicing acupuncture and herbal
medicine under his grandfather's watchful eyes. To this
day, he is considered the Father of Modern Medical
Qigong in China since he was the first to disseminate it
to large numbers of medical professionals.
Due to his success in the Martial
Arts and Chinese Medical Healing Sciences, Master Foo
was chosen to undergo a training with Ju Zan who was The
Supreme Abbot of All Chinese Buddhism at the time. He
was also the 12th Lineage Holder of the Emei Linji Zen
Qigong sect. When Master Foo first set eyes on him - he
recognized the remarkable monk from his dreams, which
foretold of their meeting.
He began studying with Ju Zan and
abandoned his other pursuits - going into seclusion. His
Emei Linji system was for warrior monks studying
Buddhism and advanced internal strengthening arts.
Master Foo underwent an intense selection process for
one year and was determined the best pupil for taking
the responsibility of being the future Grandmaster of
the lineage. Grandmaster Foo was the only layman
(non-monk) asked to stay and receive the complete
transmission, which took 8 years.
During this time, Master Foo was
mostly in seclusion. Grandmaster Ju Zan transmitted the
complete knowledge of The Emei Linji Zong Traditional
Life Science and Arts System of Zen Qigong and Healing.
After eight years of intensive training, he passed on
his title of lineage head to Master Foo - making him the
13th Grandmaster.
It was shortly before Ju Zan's
passing that he received training in Dharma methods
exclusively transmitted from one Lineage holder to the
next. He was told to share his knowledge with the world
to alleviate human suffering.
Grandmaster Foo emerged from
seclusion in 1979 and began teaching the Emei Medical
Qigong techniques throughout China. Grandmaster Foo
taught the first external energy-transmission healing
workshop to big groups of medical doctors.
Grandmaster Foo would teach
outdoors in the Beijing winters wearing a t-shirt and
sandals. He earned respect from all the doctors and
students. Most people always expected this extraordinary
Qigong Master to be an old, old man. He set many new
paradigms in China that previously were not known - such
as the Qi emitting lectures which drew great crowds.
In the 1980's he was giving Qi
Emitting lectures to small crowds of 5000 and large
crowds of 100,000 packed inside football stadiums to
receive the healing Qi/ Energy he would emit.
In 1995, he brought a treasure
chest of Qigong, Tai Chi, and healing knowledge to the
United States that most had never seen.
Grandmaster Foo has since taught
Qigong and Tai Chi to thousands of Americans. Yet, he
feels the real essence of Qigong is more than vital
energy cultivation and obtaining special abilities. He
feels that cultivating virtue and attaining
enlightenment bring the true fruits of happiness &
empowerment into the human experience.”
It was through the combination of
Karen’s family, friends and Grandmaster Foo that Emei
Acupuncture Healing became a reality. Our name Emei is
a direct result of him and the lineage.
